99 Names Of Allah : 2 Al-Akram

By Shamsiya Noorul Quloob

Introduction | Al-Illah | Al-Akram | Al-Ahad | Al-Witr | Al-Wahid | Al-Musawwir

Bismillah

Al Akram comes from the root word “karam” which means "more generous". In its essence Al-Akram is the extreme or highest form of Allah’s another name Al-Kareem. Al Akram is answer to our inner self, in simple words our longing, emptiness and most of the time unending wants and greediness. The way we humans are always demanding in the same way Allah subhanahu walata’aala is always most generous.
The best generosity that was ever bestowed upon us by Allah swt is that he favored and selected us as Muslims over all of His creations. The most generous will never let us down. He gave us life, sustains us and causes us to grow.

Things Allah Has Honored Us With
1. The Qur’an : Our Guidance, our pathway to Jannah.
2. The beautiful and perfect way in which Allah molded us. Watch this short clip by Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan.
3. Breathed into man of His spirit.
4. Commanded the angels to prostrate to man.
5. Made us successors on the earth. To understand the impact of this honor watch this time lapse clip.
6. Made angels our guardians in this life and servants in the hereafter.
7. Gave most of us clean water, clothes and not just necessities but luxuries.

“Al-Akram depicts Allah’s divine essence and Al-kareem depicts Allah’s actions”
Imam Al – Qurtubi (rahimahullah)

Apart from the generosities mentioned above Allah will also honor us on the day of Judgment, we will be the first on the day of judgment.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: We who are the last shall be the first on the Day of Resurrection, except that every Ummah was given the Book before us and we were given it after them. It was this day which Allah prescribed for us and guided us to it and the people came after us with regard to it, the Jews observing the next day and the Christians the day following that.
Muslim

Keeping in mind this particular name of Allah we all should long for doing good deeds and shy away from sins. It is not befitting of us to fall into sin and error after Allah has honored us such.

Living with Allah’s name Al-Akram
Be generous and giving. It might be something as simple as sharing your pizza with a younger sibling or sharing your best pair of shoes with the elder one. Make sure you donate at least 1 dollar/10 rupees a week. Clean your closet and give away unused/tight clothes to someone in need – do it now because your clothes rotting in the closet does not make sense when someone is suffering in harsh cold outside. Be generous by the means of forgiveness. Forgive those who have wronged you.

Making Dua to Al-Akram
No matter what halal need you want, ask Allah of it by his name Al Akram. He is the extremely generous. Invoke Allah alone. And know with certainty that Allah will inshaAllah answer your cry for help and accept your repentance.

"Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful."
(Surah At Tur 52:28)

Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tells us in Hadith Qudsi “… Were he to ask of Me, I would surely give him; and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it.”
Al-Bukhari

Make it your duty to honor and be generous to others as you would want Allah to honor you and be generous to you. Allah has raised you to a really high rank by making you the best of His creation do not degrade yourself by sinning, take measures and cease it immediately.

I would love to hear personal accounts of your stories. Make sure you call upon Allah this week by His name Al-Akram and let me know how it changed your life. Will you make a change and be more generous? If yes, let us know how, so that other sisters can find inspiration and motivation from your idea. :)
